The Most Successful Companies Hire Women and Millenials

According to the 2014-2015 Global Leadership Forecast produced by HR experts DDI International, if you want to get big, go young: the fastest-growing companies in the world have the highest percentage of millenials in leadership positions. The most aggressively-growing companies have about 30 percent millennial workers in leadership roles, as opposed to 21 percent for the slowest growing companies. Many of these companies are in the tech field, offering roles that have a lot of variety and opportunities for change and growth, an attractive prospect for young workers.

If, on the other hand, you’re more concerned with your bottom line, organizations with more women consistently perform better financially. Companies in the bottom 20 percent of financial performance had only 19 percent women in leadership positions; companies in the top 20 percent have 37 percent female leadership. Women polled cited a lack of opportunities to lead teams and do work across a large geographic area as one of the key areas that’s holding them back. Furthermore, because women also tend to rate themselves as less effective than their peers (men are more likely to consider themselves effective leaders), they might not be asking for those opportunities—which means companies have a clear directive on where they should be filling in gaps for maximum profits.

As for what will happen to your balance sheet if you hire, develop and promote all these smart, ambitious millennial women out there…well, the mind just boggles, doesn’t it?
