George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin Are Officially, Officially Married Now
Okay, okay, we get it, George Clooney: You’re off the market. To drive home the point to women everywhere that they really don’t have a chance with him anymore, Clooney and his new wife, human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, had a civil ceremony in Venice today. According to ABC News, Italian law requires couples to sign paperwork at a local town hall for their marriage to be legally recognized, which is why the weekend included two ”I do” moments. And hey, we’re okay with it because more wedding fashions!
Us Weekly reports the newlyweds arrived for the official ceremony via the ”Amore” water taxi they’ve used to ferry their wedding party around Venice the whole weekend, and smiled and waved to throngs of paparazzi. And because they’re George and Amal, they looked flawless the whole time.
They said their legally binding vows at Venice’s Palazzo Ca’Loredan in front of Walter Veltroni, the former mayor of Rome, who also officiated their ceremony on Saturday. According to the Daily Mail, the ceremony only took 10 minutes and cost 600 euros, which is the standard cost for non-residents who want to get married in Venice. (The Clooneys: Just like us!) City officials closed off streets around the municipal building to curb crowds.
Today’s event puts an end to a weekend of frenzied coverage of the nuptials, which reached Royal Wedding-like fever in the Italian press…and our hearts. Now all we need is a photo of Alamuddin’s sure-to-be-gorgeous Oscar de la Renta wedding dress—which, according to WWD, People has the exclusive rights to—and then we, as a culture, can move on.
