Here, we discuss her obsession with beauty, fashion influences, and the motifs on which her latest body of work is fixated.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve read that you grew up looking at magazines\u2014ELLE especially. Why do you think you were so enamored by the images of models and fashion idols?<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve always had an obsession with magazines and models, I think, because of their beauty and bodies. For the model paintings, I would go through magazines and tear out pages that I liked and then I would make paintings from that.<\/p>\n
Your work has evolved, but does your fascination with models still exist?<\/p>\n
It is still there, although I\u2019m not as focused on that anymore.<\/p>\n
Being in the art world, do you feel as if you’ve ever been able to get inside the fashion world? Was that something you wanted?<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve never been able to get inside the fashion world. I would meet random models on the streets sometimes and tell them I make paintings of them and that was it.<\/p>\n
It seems, to me, your latest paintings, with their bright splashy motifs, would lend themselves to a print or designer collaboration. Is this something you would be interested in?<\/p>\n
I saw that Suno had this one pattern\u2014I think it was like sunglasses or some funny combination\u2014and that\u2019s kind of where I got some ideas, too. But, no. At this point, I think my work is better as a painting.<\/p>\n
How do you feel about the way social media gives artists the opportunity to project a certain aesthetic?<\/p>\n
I think Instagram is an amazing tool to put images out there and to show your work and to see other things as well. I\u2019m totally obsessed with it; I look at it for hours. I love grouppartner. He makes clay pots in the shapes of women\u2019s bodies and they\u2019re all wearing different swimsuits. It\u2019s pretty great.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
