We teach girls to shrink themselves<\/span>
To make themselves smaller<\/span>
We say to girls,<\/span>
”You can have ambition<\/span>
But not too much<\/span>
You should aim to be successful<\/span>
But not too successful<\/span>
Otherwise you will threaten the man.”<\/span>
Because I am female<\/span>
I am expected to aspire to marriage<\/span>
I am expected to make my life choices<\/span>
Always keeping in mind that<\/span>
Marriage is the most important<\/span>
Now marriage can be a source of<\/span>
Joy and love and mutual support<\/span>
But why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage<\/span>
And we don’t teach boys the same?<\/span>
We raise girls to see each other as competitors<\/span>
Not for jobs or for accomplishments<\/span>
Which I think can be a good thing<\/span>
But for the attention of men<\/span>
We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings<\/span>
In the way that boys are<\/span>
Feminist: the person who believes in the social<\/span>
