Justice Minister Peter Slipper has promised a multi-year response to help strengthen Queensland’s criminal justice system.

Police Minister Michael Keenan this week urged state parliament to “immediately and vigorously legislate for new, greater funding and accountability for the sexual exploitation of children”.

Mr Keenan was responding to complaints that a lack of resources from the state police has caused delays in the development of “pilot” programs designed to improve police capacity and respond to sexual assault cases.

Mr Keenan says the government is committed to providing $8.1 million to the police for the pilot programs and additional $4.2 million in support to Queensland Child Protection to provide care and support for vulnerable children.

He says the state’s police force is now working hard to meet demands.

“In recent years, we’ve been able to secure, under the Queensland Child Protection and Safe Communities Act, funding to develop a more holistic and effective response to protect vulnerable child carers,” Mr Keenan says.

“What that means is you can now have access to child care services on weekends, you can have access to community-based centres or support services, you can go to schools in your area or your school.

“What we’re aiming to do is to move to the point where we are more likely to actually get it right in terms of how we can make sure this type of child sexual abuse does바카라 게임n’t happen to children.”
