Water restrictions loom sydney dam levels drop in drought hit area

Worried about future flooding of a key wetland area and fearing floodwaters could reach the city, the Federal Government has decided to reduce water restrictions on some areas of eastern Sydney, even if they were not closed to commercial uses, according to Water Resources Minister Josh Frydenberg.

A warning has been issued across northern NSW to water users concerned about their future risks in drought-affected areas.

“We were hoping to reduce them by around 10% when we last did water restrictions last April, but the reduction is consistent with what we have done in the past and will continue.”

The changes will help prevent an increase in flooded parts of the City of Sydney’s northern and eastern boundary areas and are designed to make sure they are not closed to the residential or commercial use of infrastructure.
