I’m still in bed feeling sorry for myself haha :) but I found some interesting documentaries that are keeping me busy so all good in the hood. This one is with Richard Dawkins and is called The enemies of reason. He goes around trying to get astrologers and psychics to prove their abilities in any way, making blind tests and what will you. He makes you question everything you can’t rationalize which isn’t always appreciated by people stuck in their bubbles I suppose, but I love it. Granted, he’s a bit full of himself and a little condescending, but he has some good things to say.
There’s one part about superstition where they trained a pigeon to be rewarded with food every time they picked at a specific lock. So, being the smarties that they are, they kept picking at that one lock for food. Now, the scientist changed the test up and started handing out food at complete random times which totally fucked with the pigeons. One of them happened to look over his left shoulder at the time the food was given, so he kept looking over his left shoulder thinking that food was rewarded for this kind of behavior.
It’s interesting how we have our ”lucky socks” because we scored a goal in them, giving power to an inatimate object that probably had nothing to do with your so called luck. Or how we keep betting on number 7 because that one time, way back when, you won a few buck on that exact number. I’m absolutely guilty of superstitious behavior. I’ll tell you my worst, and it’s a secret so you guys should feel special for knowing my strange behaviors, but I can not enter and airplane without having touched the outside of the plane right before I step onboard, because obviously if I don’t the plane might crash. Yes, I have issues. Does it have anything to do with reason? Nope, but then again I don’t think we are a reasonable species.
Just look at the amount of religious people in this world, swearing up and down that God is real although he can’t be proven. Personally, I don’t doubt that certain people may have seen ”God” or have had him spoken to you and saved you from your problems and troubles just by crossing your hands and asking politely. I really kind of just think that this ”God” of yours is an asshole for not helping everyone out, the same way he choose to show himself or speak to you. What makes you so damn special that he would pick you to guide and protect versus the 33% of the worlds starving population, or the millions of kids that get beaten or abused on a daily basis?
I know that religion is a huge part of a lot of people lives and I don’t mean to step on toes or offend anyone, so keep that in mind my little muffins. I’m just rambling<3
