Nel aqua calda ( in hot water)

Italy is a country historically famous for its volcanoes, many of whish are dormant now. Even today we can see on TV news show striking images of glowing lava flow from active volcanoes like Etna and Stromboli, off the Sicilian coast. Of course the brooding silence of Vesuvius glowering over Naples, with the nearby city of Pompeii resting as an all to potentially destructive force. Italy is, in fact, the birthplace of volcanology, the study of volcanoes.  But all those volcanic activity has another more pleasurable offshot in form of terme (thermal springs ) and sulfur baths.

Italians loves to go hit their terme baths all around the year, even when its baking hot ( going in the evening during the summer months, in the winter, spas are a favorite haunt all day long). People making an out of it, luxurating in the warm waters, drinking in the fresh air, lounging around in total relaxation or enjoying a picnic.

For me that grown up of not seeing so much sun and the possibility to bathing in even not 15degree warm water, its just fantastic staying in those terme spa bath. You should definitely visit one if you spend a week in Italy. So, only for just one day 🙂 !

Here you see one of the oldest terme spas in Italy at Lago di Garda, in the little village Sirmione. This big villa was one of the biggest in the beginning of Christ.

Grotte di Catullo. Nearby you find terme spas.

Popular Italian Spas

Spas can be found in every Italian region, but especially in Campania ( in the central southern Italy, with Naples as the regional capital ) and Tuscany ( central north, regional capital is Florence.

In these cities you find a lot of terme spas .

One favourite città is Montecatini in Tuscany and Chianciano. If you are close to Naples you for sure need to hit out to the island Ischia.

Bagno di Tivoli, just north of Rome, and if you are visiting me we can go to Abano Terme nearby Padova.

Terme Tettuccio, Montecatini

Why not having a date at the terme? Its a unique and highly erotic encounter 🙂 Since most of those spas tend to be  found in beautiful locations, take a picnic along to enjoy al fresco after your first dip of the day, and then spread you out like a bird on a big blanket so you can lie back and relax in harmony with the nature.

Why not give your partner a luxurious and relaxing treat at Mezzatore Spa resort, on Ischia island ? Me like.
