Italians are renowned for being very tactile, and having a highly developed sense of tatto (touch). When they communicate, they even add touch to their words to emphasize their message. Italians use physical contact as a means of expression – wether in freindship or in love. This seems to Nord European little bit strange to adapt.
Women will ”groom” men, smoothing down their hair, or gently stroking their arms (even if they are not partners). I remember once I met an english girl that just got together with an italian man from Rom. She left our home party in Sardinia after she felt humilated of her boyfriend’s statement and approach talking with an milanese donna:) – actually I was more flattering her then the roman man…hahahah… all togehter at the same table!
Finally they got married, and hopefully she has understood the difference between or 2 cultures.
