Under vintertiden är det skönt att resa bort och ta hand om sig själv, sådär lite extra. Personligen gillar jag att åka till ett termalbad och värma upp mig ordentligt med hälsosamt varmt källvatten. Ordet termer kommer från latin thermae som betyder värme, hetta. Förr i tiden när romarna skulle besöka sina termalbad, genomgick de en bestämd ordning. Först klädde man om sig i apodyterium, för att därefter bada kallt i frigidarium. Sen gick det vidare till ljumbadet tepidarium och varmbadet caldarium. I vissa större termer fanns även ett simbad, natatio, vilket på latin ordagrant betyder ”simning”.
Mitt favoritställe är ett superlyxigt termalbad med hotel i Köln, Tyskland som heter Mauritziustherme. Här var romarna 55 år före Kristus då Caesar erövrade området kring floden Rhen där Köln ligger. Hotellet ligger dessutom mitt i staden och här finns det fantastiska boutiquer och affärer för bra shopping.
