Jag har fått höra att indianerna upptäckte echinacea efter att ha sett hur älgar som var sjuka eller skadade sökte sig efter just denna växt. Dakota indianerna använde echinacea på sina hästar.
Under 1800-talet rekommenderade läkarna i USA echinacea och under det tidiga nittonhundratalet blev den, den bäst säljande örten i Amerika. Men med upptäckten av penicillin och andra läkemedel så avtog populariteten. PÅ 1930-talet så avfärdade AMA American Medical Association echinacea och påstod att den var värdelös.
Under 1930-talet, samma tid, så reste Gerhard Madaus, min fasters mans morfar som då hade en fabrik i Tyskland som tillverkade naturmedicin – till USA i jakt på frön från Echinacea angustifolia. Han tog med sig fel frön. Istället för Echinacea angustifolia, blev det Echinacea Purpurea.
Men det visade sig att de frön han tog med av misstag blev en succe. Han började odla enorma fält av denna växt. Just i Tyskland har man gjort det bästa vetenskapliga studierna.
Han tog fram en världskänd produkt som ni säkert alla känner till: ECHINAGARD /ECHINACIN av Madaus. Precis som i medicinen använder vi saften från blommor, blad och stjälkar.
